Gaelic for Absolute Beginners is just that, a group of learners just starting their learning journeys. If you’ve never spoken Gaelic, are curious to find out if learning a language is for you, or just enjoy learning new things, try the Absolute Beginners group and find out! Absolute Beginners meet together online regularly with a knowledgeable and patient tutor. The Absolute Beginners tutor is Alec ‘Valtos’ MacDonald.

Whether you had Gaelic in the past and “lost” it along the way, have “beagan Gàidhlig” (a little Gaelic) from family and friends, or have studied on a language platform such as Duolingo but have never formally learned Gaelic, the Beginners Group may be the place for you. The Beginners Group meets regularly together online with their tutor. The tutor for the Beginners Group is Alec ‘Valtos’ MacDonald.

Can you carry on a short conversation in Gaelic? Do you know more than a learner just beginning but aren’t where you want to be in your reading/understanding/speaking journey? The Intermediate Learners meet online weekly with a tutor to study Gaelic at the A2/B1 level using the SpeakGaelic curriculum and short stories by Gaelic authors. The Intermediate class tutor is Alistair Hunter.

We have Gaelic for the young ones as well! Gaelic Bookbug meets regularly (roughly twice a month) at the Elgin Library. Learn more about Bookbug at the Gaelic Bookbug page on the Scottish Book Trust website.

Srùbags are gatherings held monthly to bring Gaelic learners and other interested community members together to share time, tea and teanga (language). The schedule and location of these events are listed on the Calendar of Events.
